The domain is about to exceed its bandwidth limit Print

If you received an email alert from one of our web servers, telling you that your domain is about to exceed its bandwidth limit, there are a few things you want to think about.

Is it unusual for your web site to reach its bandwidth quota?  If you're a long-time hosting customer, and this has never happened before, you should check your web stats report to see if any of the following conditions exists:

  • Are there large files being downloaded from your web site?  These could be images, mp3s, videos, etc.  Are they files that you know about? We ask this question, because it is possible that your site's been compromised and a third party/parties are using it to distribute what's called "warez."
  • If you find that some of your files are a bit too large, do what you can to optimize them for the web. Your site's load time can affect your placement in search engines like Google. Smaller files = faster load time.

If it's the end of the month, keep a close eye on your bandwidth usage. You may not have to take any action. The bandwidth quota will reset at the beginning of the month.

If you don't know what to do, please submit a ticket so our support staff can assist you.
