Why Is My Internet Not Working?

If you have DSL from ConnectNC please check the following before calling in for support:

Note: Please don’t push the reset button! That will wipe out your modem’s configuration!

  1. Are the lights all lit on your DSL Router?
If not, press the power button on the back of the modem and check the power supply to make sure everything is plugged in properly.
  2. Do you have a solid DSL light but no internet light?
    a. Press the power button on the back of the DSL Router and leave off for 1 minute. Press the power button on the back of the DSL Router and allow the router time to power up – can take up to 1 minute.
    b. If you still do not have an internet light do you have any other equipment in place between the computer and the DSL Router i.e., Wireless Router, Network Router? If so bypass all other equipment where the Cat5 cable runs from your DSL Router to the Ethernet card on your computer or laptop.
  3. Is the Ethernet Light lit on the DSL Router?
If not check the Cat5 cable between the DSL Router and your computer. Make sure the cable is seated firmly – try unplugging and replugging in the cord. If the cord  is seated firmly try restarting your computer. If the light still will not illuminate try having the DSL modem tested and if all is well then you will need to contact a local computer technician for testing of your Ethernet card.
  4. Are all lights lit on the DSL Router but you still cannot browse the internet?
Try power cycling the DSL Router by unplugging the power cord or by pressing the black power button on the back of the DSL modem.
