I have DSL and can
not connect./fontfamily>
Power off equipment, on most DSL equipment their is a power
switch on the back of the router. Shut computer down. Count
to 30 and turn the router back on and then the computer. The
router takes about a min to come back on. If this does not
work please contact Technical Support.

What is the
Acceptable use Policy?
The Acceptable use policy can be found by going to . These
are the terms and conditions, for using ConnectNC Inc.
services.

On the DSL Contract what does "Acquire & Maintain
appropriate security (a "firewall") for this account mean?
This means that you need to Maintain the appropriate
security for your situation. Security is the users
responsibility. As a minimum you will need virus protection
and to keep up with security updates for the Operating
System of your Computer (Windows Updates). The DSL modem
ConnectNC provides provides some basic firewall functions.
If you are unsure as to the level of security you need
please ask one of our consultants.

Why do I need to "/fontfamily>Back-up
any files on your computer before installation, as some
files may be altered during installation."? What changes
will be made on my computer?/fontfamily>/fontfamily>
ConnectNC technicians are not responsible for lost or
damaged files. Regular back ups are good computer practices
anyway. It is also highly unlikely that any files will be
lost or damaged during the installation process. On the
computer we will make the necessary changes to allow your
computer to connect over a network connection rather then
over the dial up. For the most part this involves enabling
the network card and telling the computer not to try to
dial. In rare cases the technician may need to install a
network card. ConnectNC does not use any special software.
If you need a back up solution please take a look at our off
site back ups.

Do I need any special equipment for DSL service to work?
You need a DSL Modem. When you sign up with ConnectNC then
we will provide you with the necessary DSL equipment. Your
computer will need to have a network card. Most newer
computers already have one, if by chance your computer does
not then our tech can install one during the install for an
extra charge.

I am planning on going out of town and have DSL. Is there a
way I can connect when I am not at home?
You can use our National Dial-up numbers when you are not at
home. You will need to turn off your DSL equipment before
you leave town, since DSL is always on, and you can not be
connected in more then one place at a time.

What
is a Static IP address and do I need one?/fontfamily>
IP Addresses are the way your computer is identified on a
network or the Internet. In most cases these addresses
change when you connect. A Static Address will stay the
same. This is generally used in special situations, VPN
connections or for an office that has users remotely
connecting to the office network. If you are unsure please
ask one of our consultants and they will be glad to help
determine exactly what you need.

I have DSL and there is a buzz on the phone line.
This normally happens when a new phone is installed but
there a filter is not installed.
With DSL you need a filter on each phone to keep the two
frequencies separated. One phone can actually cause noise on
other phones. If you have DSL and need additional filters
please contact ConnectNC for additional filters.
If all of the phones have filters and you are still getting
a buzz this may be a sign there are other problems with your
phone lines. To see if DSL is the cause turn off the DSL
modem and see if you continue to have problems. If you do
then there are other things that we can do to solve the
problem. Please contact us for more information.

I had DSL installed but my computer is still slow. What do I
need to do?
DSL does not affect the speed of your computer only your
connection to the Internet. If your are having problems with
your computer then ConnectNC offers computer repair
services.
--return to questions
I have DSL with ConnectNC. Do I still need virus protection?
YES! Virus protection is very important with all
connections, but with DSL service then you can propagate the
virus much faster. If you need assistance installing Virus
protection or making sure that it is up to date please ask
one of our technicians.
--return to questions
I have DSL with ConnectNC. What is my IP address?
There are two different IP Addresses, one is the internal
network addresses and the other is the public address. The
default range for the internal network is 192.168.1.0 or
192.168.254. However if the address has been changed from
the default then it may be something different. ConnectNC
does not manage your internal network addresses as part of
DSL services. For the public address, in most cases this
address changes every time you connect. If you need a static
address ConnectNC can provide you one. Other wise you can
find you address by using a website like
http://showmyip.com.

If multiple computers are to be connected to the DSL line,
an Ethernet hub with cables for each computer will be
required.
A USB-to-Ethernet converter can be used instead of an
Ethernet card if there is an available USB port. USB
converters cost about the same as an Ethernet card and the
computer case does not have to be removed but is generally
less reliable.

How do I set up a wireless router to work with my DSL
connection?
**These
instructions are for advanced users, please use at your own
risk.**
There are two different sets of instructions depending on
the type of your DSL equipment. In both cases this is an
unsupported issue. Any changes are made so at your own
risk.
ConnectNC does offer wireless and wired networking services.
We can also assist in setting up your own wireless or wired
equipment.
This is the easy way - and will work on most DSL equipment
In most cases you use a web browser to configure your
wireless router.
To do this type the Default Gateway address into the address
bar and enter the user name /password when prompted. This
address should also be listed in the instructions that came
with your router.
In the your wireless router you need to change the IP
Address for the LAN and possibility the DHCP pool to
10.10.10.1 for the IP and something higher then that in the
same range ex. 10.10.10.33.
This should take care of the connection issue. That are
caused by having multiple routers.
Here is the other way. These instructions are for a Zyxel
645 series router. Any configuration changes done to the
Zyxel DSL modem are done so at your own risk.
Configure 645 Router - Bridge Mode
Connect to the Zyxel Router
Telnet 192.168.1.1 (to telnet click start, click run, type
telnet 192.168.1.1)
Default Password 1234 (password could also be the password
for your account, if none of these work, please
contact us.)
(to move around in the router you type the number of the
menu you want to enter if the number is listed as 24.1 you
would enter 24 on the first screen and 1 on the second. use
the esc key to return to the previous screen.)
-
Menu 1
-
Change system name ConnectNC
-
enter a contact name - Should be last name showing on
account
-
change Route IP = No
-
Change Bridge = Yes
-
Menu 3.2
-
Change DHCP = None
-
Menu 4
-
Change ISP Name= cnc
-
Change encapsulation= RFC 1483
-
Multiplexing= LLC-based
-
VPI #= 8
-
VCI #= 35
-
Change NAT= None
-
Menu 11.1
-
Change Route= No
-
Change Bridge= yes
You will also need to configure the wireless router to
do PPPoE. The user name needs to contain the domain @connectnc.net
(ex: user27@connectnc.net) along with the password for
that account.
If you need assistance in setting up your equipment
please contact us.
