Configuring iPad Email for Your Hosting Account

This article describes how to configure your iPad Mail for your ConnectNC hosting account. Please substitute your actual email account information wherever we have used yourdomain.com or chilesauce.com as examples.

This is written for an intermediate iPad user. We assume that you understand how to get to your iPad settings, and how to use your iPad to send and receive email. It’s not intended as a training article.  If you need configuration or training for your iPad, we offer that as an additional service. Please contact us to schedule an appointment.

In this example, we allowed iPad Mail to use all its default settings. We did not modify anything or have to provide anything except the following three pieces of information.

Information required for mail account configuration:

  • Your email address
  • Your email account password
  • Your email server names (mail.yourdomain.com, where “yourdomain.com” is replaced with your actual domain name)
1.  Go to Settings in your iPad.  Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars.  Tap Add Account.
 One
 2. Tap Other.
 Step Two
 3. Tap Add Mail Account.
 Step Three
 4. Type in your account information.

  • Name: Your real name as it will appear in the sender field to your recipients.
  • Email: Your full email address.
  • Description: Whatever is meaningful to you, to help you distinguish this account from others.
  • Incoming Mail Server Host Name: mail.yourdomain.com.
  • User Name: Your full email address.
  • Password:  Your account password.
  • Outgoing Mail Server Host Name: mail.yourdomain.com.
  • User Name: Your full email address.
  • Password:  Your account password.

Tap Next.

 Step Four
 5. If you are presented with the following warning, “Cannot Verify Server Identity,” simply tap Continue. You will see this warning if you have not purchased and installed an SSL certificate for your domain name.  If you wish to purchase and have us install an SSL certificate for you, please contact us.  Otherwise, any time you encounter this warning, please tap Continue.
 Step Five
6.  Turn off Notes and tap Save.
Step Six

If you are using a cellular service, such as AT&T or Verizon to connect to the internet, please note that they may be blocking standard outbound mail ports, so you will need to contact their support to ask which ports are open for sending. If you can send mail while you’re connected to your home or office wi-fi, but cannot send while connected to a cellular service, this is a strong indication that the commonly used ports for sending are being blocked by the provider. Please contact your carrier to ask for help in this case.

Creating an html e-mail message for Apple Mail, using MS Word

These directions assume that you’re proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Apple Mail.   This is just one simple way to create an html e-mail message, and we also assume that the reader is able to save and find files on his or her Mac.

Open Microsoft Word and create a document by clicking on File and New Blank Document.  Once you’ve opened a new document, click on File and Save as Web Page.   Now your document is ready for editing.

You can insert images and change formatting.  Be creative to make your document look beautiful!

Once you’ve saved your document, you’ll be able to send it as an html message.

  • Open Safari
  • Click on “File” and choose “Open File.”
  • Navigate to the file you created.  The html page you created will be displayed in Safari.
  • Now click on “File” again.  Choose “Mail Contents of This Page.”
  • Apple Mail will open, and the new document you created will be displayed in the message content area.
  • Add your recipients and be sure to change the subject line.
  • Click Send when you’re ready.
  • Remember that not all recipients will be able to view html messages. For security reasons, some people prefer to receive only text messages. In these cases, your html will be scrubbed from the message, and those recipients will not see images or special formatting you applied.

Configure your iPhone or iPad for ConnectNC Hosting

  • On your iPhone or iPad, tap the Settings icon and then choose “Mail, Contacts, Calendars.”
  • Choose “Add Account.”
  • Scroll down and choose “Other.”
Tap “Add Mail Account.”
Type in your name, your full email address, your email account password and something to describe this account.

Type in your actual email address here. Do not use “mydomain.com.”

Scroll down to enter the incoming and outgoing mail server information.  Both incoming and outgoing will be the same.  Replace “mydomain.com” with your actual domain name. Your user name is your actual email address.

If your email address is @pinehurst.net or @connectnc.net, please use these mail servers:

Incoming Mail Server:   mail.connectnc.com
Outgoing Mail Server:   mail.connectnc.com

Your username is your full email address.

If, at any time, you are presented with an alert that asks if you set up the account without SSL, tap Yes.  Click Next to continue.
Save your settings when prompted.

How do I sign up for your Spam and Virus Filtering?

  1. First contact ConnectNC to let us know you are interested in signing up for our spam and virus filtering.
  2. We will ask that you email us a list of all email accounts @yourdomainname.com
  3. Once we have your email accounts set up on the filter we will then make the necessary DNS changes if we host your site and your mail will start./
  4. If we do not host your site we will let you know when the filtering is set up and ask that you have your Web Hosting Provider make the following DNS changes:
    • Change the MX record to be mailfilter.connectnc.com (be sure this is the only mx record they have otherwise you will allow spam to bypass the filter)
    • Create a “mail.yourdomainname.com” record so we can have filtered mail delivered to your mail server.  Make sure your mail server continues to accept mail for your domain.

* Cost of filtering is $15 per month per 10 email accounts.
